1983 Mercedes 380/500SL with both tops. I bought this 1983 Mercedes 380SL from the owner after towing it in due to a breakdown in traffic. I took the car to Star Motor Service here in Charleston, SC (843) 571-1628) to have the engine problem evaluated . It seems the 380 Mercedes engines had extremely lengthy cam chains that would damage the engine when they got slack in them and wore out the tensioners. To repair the engine would have required an undamaged engine block. My thoughts were to transplant a small block Chevy V8, so the car was put inside my warehouse while the Chevy V8 hunt took place. About 4 months later, Axel at Star Motor Service called me to tell me he had a 1992 500SLC that had been hit in the side and had a lot of rust, making the car not worthy of being repaired. The car belonged to a customer of his and the mileage was in the mid 90k's. I bought the car and Star Motor Service did a complete engine & transmission swap making my 380SL a 500SL. Axel ordered new replacement front seat covers and installed them making the seats look like new. The blue factory convertible top functions perfectly and is in very good condition. I did find a hard top for the car and it looks like it came with the car even though it is a 1984 model hard top. This is a very nice 1983 Mercedes SL that needs a new home. The car has been in my warehouse at all times and is in very good condition. The miles seen in the photo are the miles that were on the car when the 380 engine died.  The 500 engine and transmission have less than 100k.  For Sale at $9,950

1975 Thunderbird custom built convertible. This is a completely stock 1975 T-bird coupe that was transformed into a convertible by a professional conversion shop in Stuart, Florida in 1975 when this car was brand new.

The top mechanism, at time of conversion, was a new 1972 or 73 Ford Mustang top assembly, new from Ford, that works flawlessly. This big Bird has all the power options that were available on this car when it was new including the 460V8. There aren't many of these around anymore and most have gone to collectors. The conversion company in Florida specialized in transforming Thunderbird coupes and Lincoln town car coupes into fabulous rag tops.

Remember this, convertible production by the big 3 was winding down on big rides in the mid 70's with Cadillac stopping in 1976 with the Eldorado. Pontiac, Olds, Chevy and Buick stopped in 1975. Have you ever seen one of these?  For Sale at $12,950.

This 57 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible was bought new by Harry & Jean Gindhart on February 7, 1957 at Fort Sumter Chevrolet in Charleston, SC. The salesman was Bill Breedlove, who is now in his 80's and still selling Chevrolets at Rick Hendrick Chevy in Charleston. The Gindharts moved in across the street from my family in 1962 when I was 11 years old. I grew up with this car. We still live across the street from each other to this day. They watched me grow up (a term I use loosely) and they have watched my kids grow up. This was their family car until the late 70's. They were kind enough to allow me to have the car in 1981 provided I would "fix it up" and "never get rid of it". 20 years later I finally kept the first part of the bargain. Ron McMahan spent hundreds of hours on this car. He has done quite a few 55-56-57 Chevys over the years and his expertise was a blessing. Tommy Ross of Ross' Auto Painting spent a bunch of time on this project as well. He has a special talent that few body men have these days. My only job was to supply the money, supply the money and supply more money for the project. The car was redone in its original green and looks better than the way it did 49 years ago when it rolled off the showroom floor. Sorry, but this is  my KEEPER and I will hand it down to my daughter,Allison.

It is obvious we have too much time on our hands. Who in their right mind would camo a Jeep 100% & when I say 100% I mean 100%. This is a 1975 Jeep CJ5 bought from the State of South Carolina 10 years ago. It was one of 2 bought with consecutive serial numbers. They were issued new to the SCARNG (SC Army Reserve National Guard). It spent its whole life on "The Hill" (Ft. Jackson) in rust-free Columbia, SC. We disassembled the Jeep leaving the tub and engine on the frame. Next it was steamed-cleaned thoroughly. We put the Jeep on the lift and started underneath and on the engine. We worked our way to the outside and then the inside, where Bendt Brothers/556 3013 did the custom camo seat covers. You will not find one piece of this Jeep, drive train included, that hasn't been camo'd. We found camo upholstery vinyl and had the original seat pattern duplicated (not cheap!). What started as a joke became a serious and expensive project. Fortunately Gracie, our new Lab, approves and can't wait to cruise the bird fields and duck blinds. $18,500 $eighteen thousand five hundred dollars
